Painting Florals from Life

Alla Prima is a painting technique in which artists capture their subject “at first attempt” applying wet-into-wet paint. This allows artists to capture the feel of a subject as they experience it in the moment. The Alla Prima technique often results in bolder brushwork and exciting, true-to-life color. 

I am delighted to paint a bouquet from Sapelo Farms every week to help me practice my Alla Prima still life paintings. As part of their CSA program, I receive one bouquet a week which I take to my studio, set up, and start painting right away!
